Li Meiling is a very important character in the anime Cardcaptor Sakura. She was made up for the anime only, as she does not appear in the manga at all. In the anime, she is introduced to us as Syaoran's fiancee from Hong Kong, coupled with the fact that she is also his cousin. She's loved Syaoran since they were little children; they lived near each other and trained in the martial arts together. One day she confessed her feelings to him and told him that they were now engaged. That is, until one of them found someone else. Unfortunately for Meiling, she knew that Syaoran didn't love her and their 'engagement' was shattered when Syaoran fell in love with Sakura. When she confronts Syaoran with the fact that he loves Sakura, she must also face herself and breaks down crying. She runs to Tomoyo (who is also her friend) and cries to her.

Meiling is of medium height, has long black hair and slanted red eyes. She usually wears her hair in the 'odango' (meatball) style tied with ribbons. She is very overprotective of Syaoran when she first comes to Tomoeda from Hong Kong, and tends to 'glomp' him in typical anime style throughout those episodes. She is excellent at martial arts, which makes up for the fact that she has no magical powers like the rest of the Li Clan. At first she thinks of Sakura as a rival for Syaoran's attention, but in the end, they become friends. Meiling often feels left out and useless because she has no magic, but she can usually help Sakura and Syaoran out in some way, shape, or form. Her battle costume is in the Chinese style: bells on the ends of the sleeves, a yin-yang on the front and back, and the colors red and gold. She made it herself, as she is quite good at sewing, but she is also an absolute disaster at cooking! Meiling's voice actor is Nogami Yukana.
